Like many young people graduating high school, I wasn't entirely sure what career path I wanted to pursue. What I did know was that I wanted to own a business.
That goal became a reality in 1989 when my father, Robert Howard, and I founded D. R. Howard, Inc. Together, we built the company on a foundation of hard work, integrity, and a commitment to delivering quality work for our clients. What started as a small family business has grown into a respected commercial plumbing contractor.
In 2007, I lost my father and business partner, but the values he instilled in me continue to guide the company today. In 2020, my son Sean joined the business, bringing a new generation. All three generations of Howard share the same core beliefs: teamwork, reliability, loyalty, honesty, and treating people the right way.
Today, I remain actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the company. I continue to support estimating efforts, oversee field operations, and work closely with project teams to develop strategies that keep projects moving efficiently. With more than four decades of construction experience, I have encountered just about every challenge the industry can present. That experience allows me to anticipate issues before they arise, and help our teams navigate complex projects with confidence.
What I am most proud of is not just the work we have completed, but the relationships we have built along the way. Many of our clients, employees, and industry partners have been with us for years, and that trust is something we never take for granted. As D. R. Howard continues to grow, my focus remains the same as it was in 1989: deliver quality work, support our people, and build lasting partnerships that stand the test of time.
